Towards a Greener and More Integrated Future at Helwan University
With the increasing global challenges in the fields of environment, social, and economic development, sustainability has become an urgent necessity to achieve a balanced and fair future. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted as part of the 2030 Agenda, emphasize the importance of integrating global efforts to eradicate poverty, protect the environment, and promote social inclusion and economic prosperity for all. These seventeen goals provide a comprehensive framework for addressing complex issues such as climate change, depletion of natural resources, and inequality, while highlighting the need for collective and innovative action to ensure that no individual or community is left behind. In this context, universities occupy a pivotal role as a source of knowledge, a laboratory for innovation, and a center for societal impact. Universities can leverage their academic and research capabilities to promote sustainability across education, research, and community service. Helwan University has embraced this vision, aligning its plans and strategies with Egypt Vision 2030 and the SDGs to enhance its local and regional impact and contribute to building a more sustainable and inclusive society. The 2024 Sustainability Report reviews Helwan University’s efforts across academic, environmental, and social dimensions, highlighting the university’s commitment to developing sustainable and innovative practices, and adopting policies that support sustainable development, thereby contributing to a better future for the community and future generations.
