Intellectual Property Unit
Unit objectives
- Encouraging the dissemination and promotion of the culture of intellectual property.
- Providing technical support to faculty members, their assistants, and researchers in all scientific disciplines regarding how to register intellectual property rights, whether literary or industrial..
- Acting as a point of contact between intellectual property rights holders at the university and intellectual property offices in various ministries.
- Exploring ways to commercially exploit the university’s intellectual property rights through linking with industry in all its forms.
- Monitoring the ideas and inventions of all university employees, preparing a paper and electronic record of them, and following up technically.
- Preparing an intellectual property policy at the university level and at the level of its various units in cooperation with the university’s various colleges and institutes.
- Providing scientific consultations and specialized training programs in various fields of intellectual property in cooperation with the National Institute of Intellectual Property.
Unit specializations:
- Proposing the general policy of the unit within the framework of its specific objectives, and submitting it to the University Council for approval.
- Decide on applications submitted by faculty members, their assistants, researchers registered for academic degrees (diploma, master’s, doctorate) in university colleges, or students at the bachelor’s or bachelor’s levels to support their applications for registration of intellectual property rights, both industrial and literary, for marketing and investment, and to take appropriate decisions regarding them.
- Studying the contracts expected to be concluded to transform registered ideas into products (goods and services) in cooperation with industry.
- Holding seminars, workshops, conferences, training programs and the like.
- Procedures related to requests to support the registration of intellectual property rights, or those related to providing scientific, technical, training, or other consultations related to intellectual property.
- Procedures related to marketing intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, service marks, industrial designs, copyrights and related rights, exploiting them, and investing them industrially or commercially.
- Participate in preparing and coordinating cooperation programs, and exchanging experiences with local and international organizations and institutions interested in intellectual property.
