Helwan University Hosts Delegation from "Future Earth Africa" and the National Research Foundation as Part of a Tour to Strengthen Regional Cooperation in North Africa

As part of technical visits to regional hubs across Africa, Helwan University—serving as the North Africa Regional Hub—welcomed an official delegation from the Future Earth Africa Hub and the National Research Foundation (NRF). The visit took place under the patronage of Professor Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of Helwan University.
The visit aimed to support dialogue on activating regional hubs and strengthening regional governance in alignment with the vision of Future Earth Africa. Discussions focused on several key topics, including enhancing the theory of change, regional leadership, sustainability of the hubs, and the role of Helwan University's hub in supporting the center’s objectives across North Africa.
The visit began at the regional office, where Associate Professor Dr. Shahenda Mahgoub, Director of the Hub, received the delegation and presented an overview of the university’s capabilities and strengths. The presentation highlighted centers of excellence, international rankings, local and global partnerships, and the university’s strategic research entities.
On the second day, an extended meeting was held with Professor Dr. Emad Abu El-Dahab, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research and Supervisor of the Hub Office. The meeting was attended by several faculty deans, directors of the Innovation and Scientific Research Complex, International Relations Office, and a representative from the International Students Affairs Office.
Dr. Emad Abu El-Dahab stated:
“Helwan University possesses strong academic and research infrastructure that qualifies it to play a central role in supporting sustainable development in North Africa. We are committed to fulfilling the objectives of Future Earth Africa through effective partnerships and impactful projects.”
The delegation also toured several of the university’s research and technical facilities, including the Arts and Culture Complex, the Central Laboratory, the Synthetic Biology Research Center, and the Nanotechnology Center. Visitors expressed great admiration for the university’s advanced infrastructure and academic diversity.
It is worth noting that Helwan University was selected to host the North Africa Regional Hub upon the initiative of Prof. Dr. Sameh Sorour former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, in recognition of the university’s pioneering role and its ability to implement sustainable development and scientific research programs in the region
