In alignment with Helwan University’s commitment to supporting national and regional efforts aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability, and reaffirming its leading role in connecting the university with international initiatives and enhancing collaboration with educational and research institutions in the fields of climate, energy, water, and the environment — the university took part in the Simulation COP30 event organized by the British University in Egypt (BUE). The event witnessed the participation of students from various countries, alongside experts, academics, and stakeholders concerned with climate and sustainable development issues.
Helwan University’s participation came under the patronage of Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of the University, and Dr. Walid El-Sarougy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs. The university was represented by Dr. Marwa El-Dahshoury, Director of the Sustainability Office at Helwan University, who actively participated in the event’s sessions, discussions, and workshops.
The sessions addressed ways to tackle climate change challenges and enhance international climate action in preparation for the upcoming COP30 Climate Summit. This international student simulation provided a platform for youth from different universities to gain deeper insights into climate issues and contribute to developing innovative solutions for global environmental challenges.
Dr. El-Sayed Kandil emphasized that Helwan University’s participation in such events reflects its dedication to strengthening its scientific and societal presence in environment-related matters, and its belief in the importance of empowering students to engage actively in international events that support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He noted that the university is working to prepare future generations capable of leading positive change towards a more sustainable future.
On his part, Dr. Walid El-Sarougy highlighted the university’s special focus on climate and sustainability issues through the active role of the Sustainability Office, affiliated with the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector. He explained that the office helps guide university activities toward practical solutions to environmental challenges and reflects the university’s direction to integrate sustainability concepts into education, scientific research, and community service.
Dr. Marwa El-Dahshoury expressed her appreciation for the level of awareness and responsibility shown by the participating students from around the world. She praised the excellent organization by the British University in Egypt and affirmed that such events contribute to preparing a conscious generation of youth capable of actively engaging in climate action and shaping a more sustainable future.
At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Marwa El-Dahshoury conveyed the greetings of Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of the University, and Dr. Walid El-Sarougy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, to the administration of the British University in Egypt, in appreciation of organizing this important event that brings together students from across the globe around a common goal: building a sustainable environmental future.
