About us

The Digital Library was established as one of the projects affiliated with the Supreme Council of Universities at Helwan University in 2008 and was officially recognized as a special unit under Decision No. (227) of the year 2022 with the aim of enhancing the use of information technology across the university and providing knowledge support and digital services to all members of the academic community within and outside Helwan University. The Digital Library Unit is committed to the continuous improvement and enhancement of its services to provide the best possible experience for all users.

Vision:

Supporting digitization and providing reliable, well-documented information services to the research community.

Objectives:

In alignment with its vision, the Digital Library Unit aims to:

1. provide high-quality information services that meet the needs and expectations of users.

2. provide and facilitate access to global digital information resources from leading international publishers.

3. employ modern information technologies to ensure optimal access to both local and international information sources.

4. continuously enhance all available services.

5. develop and introduce new digital services to support faculty members and postgraduate students, both Egyptian and international.

6. reinforce the university’s competitive position among regional and global institutions through its diverse service portfolio.

Digital library Services

Services of the Unified Catalog of the Egyptian Universities Libraries Consortium (EULC)

These services aim to automate and digitize universities libraries and include the following:

1. the service of providing access to the bibliographic records and data, using the MARC21 format, of books, theses, and journal articles available at the libraries of Helwan University’s different faculties via the website of the Egyptian Universities Libraries Consortium.

So far, approximately 408,144 books have been entered, reviewed, and approved, with data entry still ongoing.
Additionally, bibliographic records have been made available for around 33,875 academic theses and 1,946 journal articles.

It is worth noting that Helwan University has demonstrated strong performance and achievement rates, according to the Supreme Council of Universities' 2024 report on progress rates at Helwan University.

2. the service of indexing and uploading the articles of the academic journals of Helwan University’s different faculties to the Digital Repository of the Egyptian Universities Libraries Consortium.

So far, approximately 1,946 articles have been made available on the Consortium’s website in full-text format, ready for easy downloading with work still underway to upload the remaining articles of all the available journals with all their published issues.

3. the service of uploading the full texts of master's and doctoral theses that have been completed and defended at all the faculties and institutes affiliated with Helwan University.

Approximately 10,920 academic theses have been uploaded to the Egyptian Universities Libraries Consortium platform to date, with the uploading process still ongoing.

4. the service of registering and uploading the proposals of academic theses currently under study, whose titles have received official approval.

Approximately 11,742 research proposals from the various academic disciplines available across the different faculties of Helwan University have been uploaded.

Electronic Payment Code Issuance Service

This service is used to determine the fees due for electronic and digital services requiring payments.

It was activated in July 2022, as part of the university's digital transformation initiative, to facilitate interactions between employees and library users, and save time and effort.

 Certificate Issuance Service for Approved Thesis Proposals

This service is provided to postgraduate students at the Master’s and Doctoral levels, both Egyptian and international, whose theses proposals and titles have been approved by the relevant academic committees, as part of their academic degree registration process:click here

This service is available to faculty members and postgraduate students at the Master’s and Doctoral levels, both Egyptian and international, who wish to submit their research papers for publication in academic journals.

Plagiarism and Academic Integrity Check Service for Academic Theses

This service is provided to postgraduate students at the Master’s and Doctoral levels, both Egyptian and international, as a mandatory requirement for thesis committee formation.

The service allows students to obtain an official plagiarism and academic integrity report for their academic theses.

Plagiarism and Academic Integrity Check Service for Research intended for Submissions to Competitions

This service is offered to postgraduate students at the Master’s and Doctoral levels, both Egyptian and international, who wish to submit their academic work for participation in competitions such as the Best Thesis Award.

Plagiarism and Academic Integrity Check Service for Individual Research and Scholarly Output

This service is available for any intellectual output, including academic theses, research papers, or other scholarly work, produced by faculty members or postgraduate students at the Master’s and Doctoral levels, both Egyptian and international.

Training Programs and Workshops Organization Service

This service includes :

 1- coordination with the Digital Libraries Unit of the Supreme Council of Universities to provide training programs for faculty members, teaching assistants, postgraduate students at the Master’s and Doctoral levels, both Egyptian and international, and undergraduate students on how to access and effectively use the databases of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) for academic study and scientific research.

2. coordination with the Faculty Development Center at Helwan University to train faculty members and teaching assistants on how to access and use the databases of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB).

3. training library specialists and library staff in all the faculties of Helwan University on all available services, including how to carry out electronic cataloging of library collections, as well as providing them with technical support.

4. providing field training for students of the Faculty of Arts, in accordance with the cooperation protocol between the Digital Library and the Department of Libraries and Information at Helwan University. This training aims to prepare students for careers such as digital library specialists by equipping them with the practical skills and knowledge required by today’s job market.

Issuance of Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) Subscription Certificate

This service enables faculty members, postgraduate students at the Master’s and Doctoral levels, both Egyptian and international, as well as undergraduate students to subscribe to and activate their accounts on the Egyptian Knowledge Bank.
