With great success and excellent outcomes, the EU
funded Erasmus+ project “EduMust – Education and
Capacity Building in Museum Studies” has been
completed recently. Helwan University, represented
by its Master Program in Museum Studies, has been a
partner in that project, alongside a consortium of
Egyptian and European universities and entities that
included Alexandria University, Ain Sham University,
Damanhur University, the French University in Egypt,
the University of Southampton, Democritus University
(Greece) in addition to the Egyptian Ministry of
Antiquities, Ecole du Louvre, the Museum of
Mariemont (Belgium) and the French National Centre
for Scientific Research. The aim of the project was
to establish a Master degree and a Diploma of Museum
Studies at Alexandria and Damanhur universities and
offer capacity building and training for staff
members of the Egyptian partner universities. The
knowledge transfer from the renowned European
partners was of great importance for the already
existing programs at Helwan University and the
French University in Egypt. For Helwan University,
the project played a pivotal role in further
training staff members of its master program and
updating its modules content to include the latest
developments in the field of Museology. The visits
to several European museums provided our staff
members with first-hand information on modern
technologies and advanced education/interpretive
material in use. The knowledge gained from the
various workshops and training courses held in
France, Greece, England, Belgium and Egypt will have
a great impact on the quality of teaching and
research at Helwan and the other Egyptian partner
universities. The professional and personal
connections between all partners will most certainly
outlive the project and the scientific collaboration
as well as the student and staff exchange has become
a priority for all partners involved.
